Students are required to complete four years in the Language Arts program.  Seton offers a variety of study levels to meet the needs of all of our students.  Students may take Reading, English, College Prep English or Honors English.  Students can be placed in the appropriate level according to their ability.

Anna Downey:  Mrs. Downey serves as chair of the English department and currently teaches English I, English III, Journalism and Publications.  Mrs. Downey supervises the school newspaper as well as the yearbook committee.  Originally from Aurora, Indiana, she attended Ohio Wesleyan University and the College of Mount Saint Joseph.  Mrs. Downey recently received her Master of Education from Jones International University.

Sister Mary Dolores Schneider:  Sister is a member of the English Department as well as the Foreign Language Department.  Currently, she teaches English I.  She has teaching experience in Dayton, Detroit, South Holland, Illinois and in Cincinnati.  She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Loyola College and the College of Mount Saint Joseph.  Sister Mary Dolores is from Detroit, Michigan. 

 

Sister Marie Irene Schneider:  Sister Marie Irene is also a Sister of Charity from Detroit, Michigan.  Currently, she teaches English II and Reading.  She holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of Mount St. Joseph and a master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame.  She has 42 years experience teaching high school English; six of those years as Associate Principal of Academic Affairs.

Tom Kellerman: Mr. Kellerman has  been a member of the English department since 1994.  He is a current participant in the Ohio Writing Project, and is a five time Fellow at the Writing and Thinking Institute at the prestigious Bard College, located in the Hudson River Valley of New York.  Mr. Kellerman is a published writer with several poems and short stories having appeared in numerous magazines across the country.  Mr. Kellerman is also a nationally trained mediator concentrating in family and education mediation.  Originally from Fern Creek Kentucky, Mr. Kellerman earned degrees from Bellarmine University and The College of Mount Saint Joseph.

Sue Strothers: Mrs. Strothers started at Seton in 2002.  She has a bachelor's degree in French as well as English from Mount Saint Joseph.  She has been teaching for 40 years, with her first teaching experience being at Seton from 1965-1969.  Since then she has taught in parochial schools in Denver, Colorado, and in the Cincinnati Public School system. 

 

Gary Collins: Believe it or not, but Mr. Collins attended Seton while a junior at Elder High School.  During his junior year, 1985-86, he studied third year Latin taught by Sister Consolata.  His sister, Tracy (Collins) Hughes, Seton class of '86 was in the same class studying her fourth year of Latin.  Younger sister Mary studied Latin and graduated from Seton in 1998. Mr. Collins graduated with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from the University of Cincinnati.  He started teaching 9th and 12th grade English at Seton in fall of 2000.  He has attended the Writing and Thinking Institute at the prestigious Bard College, located in the Hudson River Valley of New York state twice.  Currently, he is pursuing a master's in literacy education at the University of Cincinnati.  He resides in Price Hill with his wife Linda and daughter Molly.
