As an incoming student, young women will have many options in the Fine Arts Department. Incoming students will choose between General Music/Freshman Chorus, Beginning Strings, Orchestra and Orchestra/Band. As a student continues in her studies at Seton, she may choose to continue in Concert Choir, Orchestra, Orchestra/Band, American Musicals, and Music Theory.

General Music/Freshman Chorus (Grade 9, 2 semesters, 1 credit)
In this class, 9th graders will study basic musical concepts such as note-reading and rhythm as well as explore different musical styles. Students will study a variety of choral pieces in preparation for a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert. All students will learn how to read choral music in regard to melody and harmony. Rehearsals and performances outside of school time are required for a grade.
Beginning Strings (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12, 2 semesters, 1 credit)
Students may learn to play a string instrument such as the violin, viola, cello or string bass. Students do not need any previous musical training to take this class. Students will learn basic musical concepts such as note-reading and rhythm as well as gain skills to play the instrument of their choice. All instruments are provided by the school.
Beginning Instrumental Music (Grades 9, 10, 11,12, 2 semester, 1 credit)
Students who wish to learn to play an instrument that is NOT a string instrument can take this class at Elder High School. Students will learn basic musical concepts such as note-reading and rhythm as well as gain the skills to play the instrument of their choice. Students must contact the instrumental teacher at Elder when signing up for this course.
Orchestra (Grades 9,10,11,12, 2 semesters, 1credit)
Students taking this course will be exposed to a variety of musical styles including modern and classical music. The goals are to improve intonation, technical skills, and enhance musicianship while sharing in the fun of making music. Students will have many performance opportunities including the chance for advanced students to perform with the Cincinnati Metropolitan Orchestra. Orchestra members participate in the Seton-Elder Performing Arts Series in addition to other programs. Students must take part in concerts outside of school time. This course meets the fine arts credit required for entrance into some state colleges.

Orchestra/Band (Grades 9,10,11,12, 2 semesters, 1 credit)
Students enrolled in this course will participate in the Seton Orchestra and Elder Band. Members of Orchestra/Band MUST attend several rehearsals and performances outside of school time. Students will have many performance opportunities including football and basketball games. Interested students must have approval of Elder's Instrumental Instructor.

Seton Concert Choir (Grades 10,11,12, 1 or 2 semesters, .5 or 1 credit)
Various styles of good quality choral music are studied, both SSA and SATB (when combining with the Elder Glee Club). The goals are to raise the level of vocal production and musical expression as well as to share in the enjoyment of making music and performing with and for others. Performances include the Christmas Concert, Talent Show and Spring Concert. Students MUST attend several additional rehearsals and concerts outside of school time.
Prerequisite: Teacher Approval.
Private Voice Lessons (Students currently taking Concert Choir for a full year)
Students may wish to study private voice with our voice instructor. Students will gain a solid understanding of the way the voice mechanism works as well as proper breathing and singing techniques. Music Theory (Grades 11 and 12, 1 semester, .5 credit)
Music Theory is a college-prep course designed for students who desire a deeper understanding of music. Students will learn music theory, aural skills and basic music computer programs. Students considering further music study in college or as a career are highly encouraged to take this course.

American Musicals (Grades 11 and 12, 1 semester, .5 credit)
Students will explore the history and progression of the American Musical. Learn about the composers, librettists and the historical events that influenced many musicals that are famous today.
