Seton Names Janie Borcherding Shaffer Director of Athletic Operations
Janie Borcherding Shaffer, new Director of Athletic Operations, will be responsible for supervising the Seton athletic program including 12 varsity sports. She will also serve as the athletic department’s chief development officer, cultivating donor relations, annual giving and ongoing public relations and marketing duties.
Janie comes to Seton with a wealth of knowledge and experience in athletics. She was the assistant athletic director for NCAA compliance/senior woman administrator at the University of Cincinnati. At UC Janie was heavily involved in the women’s sports program both as a revenue generator and sport supervisor and served on the UC athletic department’s executive board. She was the chief administrator for all of the women’s sports programs at the University, Conference and National levels.
An exceptional athlete, Janie knows and understands women’s athletics. She attended Duke University on a full athletic scholarship and played on the ACC Championship Volleyball Teams in 1992, 1993 and 1994 when she served as team captain. She received a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Duke and then earned her J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
"Seton has a long-standing tradition of excellence in athletics. Janie’s skills in athletic administration and her development background will take our program to the next level. I look forward to working with her as we continue to improve and increase the offerings for our student-athletes," said Sister Patricia.
"I am excited about my new role at Seton and the opportunity to work with student-athletes again. I consider myself fortunate to participate in continued development of an athletic program with such a rich history of excellence. I look forward to ensuring a positive experience for every young woman involved in athletics at Seton. I also look forward to working with parents, alumnae, faculty, staff and people within the local community who support Seton is so many ways," said Janie.
