Give to Seton

In the Seton Tradition
This year we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of Charity by St. Elizabeth Seton in Emmitsburg, Maryland. A wife, mother, convert and foundress, St. Elizabeth is celebrated for her faith in the ordinary and extraordinary times of her life.

Since 1809, the Sisters of Charity have devoted their time and talents to education, health care, social services, and pastoral ministry, as well as the care for the poor and the elderly. As a community, the Sisters bring compassion and sensitivity to the challenges of the world, specifically in direct service to the poor and the ongoing fight for justice, yet remain committed to the role women play in the modern Church and the world.

Mother Seton felt that a values-based Catholic education was the foundation for learning. She also held that:

-Tuition from those with financial resources supported the education of those without means.
-A broad-based curriculum offered academic subjects and training in the fine arts.
-Students should strive for excellence and exemplify Christian behavior.
-Teachers should deliver quality education.
-The school environment should be disciplined, hospitable, and compassionate.
-The school should maintain positive relationships with the larger community.
-The physical plant of the school was well-maintained, and was improved and updated as needed.
-A spirit of servant leadership should prevail among those who administered the affairs of the school.

We are proud to educate in the spirit of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton!
Why Give?
These are challenging economic times. Stock market declines, layoffs, and business closures have consumed the daily headlines. Despite the downturn, Seton welcomed its largest freshman class since 2000 last year. Parents, grandparents and friends felt that the benefits of a Catholic education and the leadership lessons afforded with single-sex education offset economic challenges.

We are the beneficiaries of the legacy of Mother Seton, the Sisters of Charity, and some 12,000 Seton High School alumnae. As such, we know that investments made in developing young women of faith pay great dividends. Our graduates become our future: athletes, mothers, scientists, doctors, teachers, lawyers, nurses. Citizens who care, people who create, women who innovate.

Last year, thanks to these women and others, Seton was able to fulfill 75% of the verified tuition needs of its students. Sadly, the need outstrips our ability. There are young women who cannot afford tuition. They will not have the experience without your help.

Help Seton fulfill its mission to develop young women of faith, service, and leadership within a Catholic Christian Community and provide academic excellence to a diverse student population.
